WordPress is a great way to get your website up and running fast.

But in your haste, you may miss some of the details.  And footer items are one of the most overlooked.

In the image above, look at the bottom where the Copyright is – it says © 2015 – Company Name.

You need to make sure that you have updated your own information in the footer rather than having the generic information from the template.

A quick outline of the settings for your WordPress site for Settings >> Permalinks

Setting Title Description
Common settings Permalinks are the unique URLs given to your pages and posts.Choose from:

  • Plain – numbered – ie mysite.com/?p=123
  • Day and name
  • Month and name
  • Numeric
  • Post name
  • Custom Structure
Optional You can also use custom structures to organize your page URLs based on their category or tags.

Click Save Changes and your settings are updated

Setting Title Description
Image size Here you can tell WordPress how to crop images if your theme does not already have image resizing embedded within itChoose a:

  • Thumbnail size
  • Medium size
  • Large size

Some themes will already have image sizes coded into them and the theme will then override these settings.

Uploading Files WordPress stores images, videos, audios, PDF’s, etc. into a folder called uploads within your websites files.You can check the box to have WordPress organize your uploads into month- and year- based folders – this is on by default and I recommend leaving it that way

Setting Title Description
Default article settings
  • Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article.
  • Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks.)
  • Allow people to post comments on new articles (These settings may be overridden for individual articles.)
Other comment settings
  • Comment author must fill out name and e-mail
  • Users must be registered and logged in to comment
  • Automatically close comments on articles older than 14 days
  • Enable threaded (nested) comments levels deep
  • Break comments into pages with 50 top level comments per page and the page displayed by default
  • Comments should be displayed with the comments at the top of each page
E-mail me whenever
  • Anyone posts a comment
  • A comment is held for moderation
Before a comment appears
  • An administrator must always approve the comment
  • Comment author must have a previously approved comment
Comment Moderation Here you call tell WordPress how to handle comments based on:

  • number of hyperlinks
  • words found in the comment
  • name
  • URL
  • e-mail address
  • IP
Comment Blacklist Same as comment moderation, but this will prevent any of the offending items from being put into comment moderation as it will mark the comment as spam automatically
Avatars You can allow your commenters, authors or contributors to show an icon next to their posts.Check the box to show avatars – leave unchecked to disallowIf you allow avatars, you can choose a rating for them (similar to movie ratings) and you can choose a default style if the commenter/author/contributors email address is not tied to an image in their Gravatar.com accountYou can register for a free account at Gravatar.com and choose an image to correspond to any of your email addresses

Formatting 1 – Elect to show emoticons as images2 – Allow WordPress to correct invalidly nested XHTML – leave unchecked in general
Default Post Category Choose to have a default post category or not
Default Post Format If your theme has it, this is where you can choose your post type – audio, video, etc. Custom Post Formats are defined in your theme’s css.
Press This Press This is a bookmarklet: a little app that runs in your browser and lets you grab bits of the web.Use Press This to clip text, images and videos from any web page. Then edit and add more straight from Press This before you save or publish it in a post on your site.Drag-and-drop the following link to your bookmarks bar or right click it and add it to your favorites for a posting shortcut
Post via e-mail You can enter your mail server information here if you wish to set up posting via email.You can also choose a default category for your email posts from the drop down menu.
